Marin County junior golf programs for kids

A child who wants to try golf once needs a different commitment from one who already asks to play every week. Choose the format first, then use the finder for the current provider, schedule, and enrollment state.

• —Drop-in class: the lowest-commitment way to see whether a young beginner enjoys coached golf.
• —Short group series: enough repetition to build a stance, grip, short game, and class routine without committing to a full season.
• —Recurring academy: a better fit once the child wants weekly instruction and on-course practice.

Equipment matters only when a child does not own suitable clubs. Use the finder where a provider explicitly promises loaner clubs or equipment. An unmarked row carries no such promise.

Youth on Course gives a junior golfer less expensive access to a golf course. It does not teach the swing, run a weekly class, or supervise a round. In Northern California, membership is $60 for a rolling 365 days and unlocks $5 walking green fees at participating courses. Cart charges and an accompanying adult's fee remain separate.

At Mill Valley Golf Course, Youth on Course members receive $5 play Monday through Friday. The course also has a Junior Club with tournaments and a short par-3 layout for beginners. Its private lessons are a separate service. McInnis Park is a nine-hole, par-31 municipal course with a covered driving range, so academy students can practice at the same facility where they take lessons.

Competition is a separate next step. The Junior Golf Association of Northern California runs more than 90 tournaments per year for boys and girls ages 7–18 across Northern California. Its schedule becomes useful once a child already plays complete rounds and wants tournament golf. Local instruction comes first.

High school golf follows the school calendar. MCAL girls golf is a fall sport, and MCAL boys golf is a spring sport. The Fall 2026 girls schedule runs league play through October, while a Spring 2027 boys schedule is not yet posted. A school team is a later pathway alongside regular practice. Beginners need instruction elsewhere.

National tours, rankings, and college recruiting sit beyond these local choices. Families choosing a first Marin County kids' golf program can leave that layer alone until the player is already competing and driving the decision.

Match the lesson format to the child and the household schedule, then confirm the participant's age, price, and remaining seat on the final registration screen.
